Simple Constipation Treatments

This article is dedicated to discussing constipation treatments. However, it may be helpful to briefly mention what the condition is and a few possible causes.

Basically, constipation is the disturbance of the removal of solid waste from the body. In other words, a person with this ailment will not be going to bathroom regularly. Women are more likely to be affected by this illness than men. This is directly related to the differences in the bodies of the two sexes. Women are more susceptible before menstruation and during pregnancy.

It’s not a stretch to say that many people (men and women) will experience occasional constipation at some point. However, the condition is usually not serious. Even so, it is important to treat the ailment because long bouts with the symptoms cause complications.

In addition to pregnancy and menstruation, the condition can be caused by medications. Generally, dehydration or insufficient levels of liquid in the system is at the root of the problem. Low levels of fiber can also be a cause. During constipation, stools become dried out and hard, making them more difficult to expel. Eventually, they will create a blockage in the colon if they are not released.

While laxatives can help to combat the problem, long term use of these constipation treatments can lead to the body becoming immune; thus rendering them ineffective. Because inadequate liquid and low fiber levels are often the problem, it makes sense that the best cures are related to diet.

Eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking more water may be treatment enough. When individuals are asked to keep a record of the amounts of vegetables and fruits they eat and the amount of water they consume, they are often surprised to learn that they are below what is considered a healthy intake of these items.

Exercise can also be one of the quality constipation treatments. A daily 30 minute walk goes a long way in this area. However, be sure to stay hydrated.
