When bowels are not doing what they’re supposed to do regularly, they become lazy, causing chronic constipation as well as damage to the colon. To prevent this from happening, you need to train your bowel to start producing stools properly and in a timely manner.

Here are the six steps to train the bowel:

1. Go to the bathroom at the same time every day. Whether you have the urge to defecate or not is not in question. What’s very important is that you have a habit of going to the bathroom at the same time each day.

2. Don’t stay too long in the toilet unless you’re having a bowel movement. The maximum time you should stay in the toilet is five minutes.

3. Don’t read in the bathroom and don’t ignore the urge to defecate.

4. Don’t strain to have a bowel movement. Straining too long may damage the nerves and muscles of the colon and rectum, causing hemorrhoids and fecal incontinence.

5. Exercise at least three to four times a week for a minimum of twenty five minutes each time.

6. During this process, stop using over the counter medicines or laxative products to relieve constipation. The goal is to have the bowel function on its own without any assistance from any remedies.

Remember to eat healthy meals that don’t constipate you; such as fiber, vegetables and fruits, and also drink plenty of pure water.

After following these steps for about two weeks, you should have bowel movements at regular times and more frequently.
